The modern ‘victory’ of Samothrace

Arsinoe de Thrace is more than a fashion brand. It’s rather a philosophy based on a strong Ancient Greek personality, the Queen of Thrace Arsinoe II, which takes up a unique place among the Queens of Macedonian origin. The founder Katerina Karagianni who comes from Evros, attempts to honour a woman and a region, which both inspire and guide her. “It is a way of remembering the majesty and glorious moments of Ancient Greece. Arsinoe, Philadelphus (sibling-loving), was the Queen of Egypt and Thace and had lived in exile for years at Samothrace, the island of the Kabiri. She is the woman who set the foundations of knowledge by founding the world’s first public library in Alexandria”, she states.

The founder of Arsinoe de Thrace is a dynamic woman, with an impressive legal studies background, who currently lives in Germany. In the past she has served as President of the Economic Forum of Thrace. One of her basic aims has been to promote the silk of the Soufli region, which is considered one of the best in the world, as well as to promote the unique features of the island Samothrace, through important activities in Greece and abroad. Her Arsinoe de Thrace collection is inspired by Ancient Greek statues, while every garment borrows its name from a female personality of Greek antiquity. In June 2013, on the occasion of the 150 years since the discovery of the Victory of Samothrace statue, she presented her collection at the open space of the Archaeological Museum of Samothrace, at the place where the Victory (‘Nike’) statue had been discovered. The collection was inspired by the chiton of the Victory of Samothrace, while the silk fabrics were from Soufli.

Katerina Karagianni’s aim goes beyond an entrepreneurial plan. Her vision is to exalt the Greek heritage on an international scale and to promote the Thracian civilization. She invites every woman to become part of Arsinoe’s philosophy, one of the more progressive personalities of Ancient Greece. She insists that culture is not just history in a book, but rather something alive that we can influence. This continuity is lacking from our generation and will continue to be missing if the younger generation does not learn to interact with their heritage.

«Branding Heritage mesmerized me with the clarity of their stated vision. Ancient Greek civilization is food for rational thought, the moving power in order to discover our own strength. Branding Heritage is founded on a solid aim and deserves to have on its side, every one of us who get inspired by Ancient Greece ».
